Team from GMF Australia partnered with SAMS for a medical and surgical mission in Jordan. Our doctors and volunteers teamed up with those from the USA, UK, Germany and Egypt to provide care for approximately 4,865 underserved, underprivileged and displaced people from Syria and Jordan in various locations around Amman. Clinics were held in Irbid, Mafraq , As-Salt, Ajloun, Jarash and Tifeleh. Medicines were supplied free of cost to those who needed them.
Our team distributed 90 food packages and 180 food vouchers to orphanages and families in dire need. 6 wheelchairs were also donated to amputees along with pharmacy vouchers.

We saw evidence of the effects of war, having to flee one’s country & being displaced in a foreign land. It was evident through our interactions with the children and the families we met that their lives had been significantly and in some cases irreparably burdened by war. What stood out to was the lack of emotions on the faces of most of the children we met and treated. Some of these children who had access to one meal a day over the last 3 to 4 years, presented with being startled by the normal loud sounds of city life. They had been conditioned through their witnessing the horrors of war. The sobering moment came when we realised that even simple long term interventions are difficult to access due to their relatively high cost. What would be a manageable condition in Australia can be severely debilitating and life limiting to these people.
GMF Australia is looking to sponsor the education of a child aged 7 who we met. He is one of the 6 orphaned children of a family struggling to make ends meet. Please contact our GMF team, if you would like to contribute to this cause.
